Here’s to exciting experiences!

Lisa Utari was an EEBA exchange student during the 2nd semester of the academic year 2021-2022. She is from Yogyakarta State University in Indonesia and was one of the students awarded with the KUOSSPAS (“One Semester Scholarship Program for ASEAN Students”) scholarship in celebration of the 80th year of Kasetsart University for an exchange semester.

“It felt really exciting to learn so many things in Kasetsart University and about Thailand. I was really happy that I got the chance to take classes from 2 programs which are, EEBA and BEcon. This opportunity was different from the education system in my home university. I was also able to join the activities like the English Club, go on trips around Bangkok, and join a Thai cooking class. These experiences are just some other things I couldn’t do if I didn’t go on this exchange program.”

There are three reasons why I joined the exchange program:

• I wanted to explore the world
• I wanted to broaden my knowledge
• I wanted to live in an extraordinary environment

By joining the exchange program, I gained a lot of benefits both from the study experience and the living experience in Bangkok!

Studying here was quite similar in my country. However, I think studying at KU was so much more fascinating because they have more facilities and the environment greatly supports students to be able to study well. It’s always comfortable to study either in class (online) or outside, like in the library.

I think the most challenging thing about studying at KU for international students like me, was that I needed to learn more about Thai life and society. In classes, we also needed to study about the country itself. An example was during my Project Feasibility class; we discussed the businesses and projects that are feasible in Thailand, so I knew I needed to know more about the economy Thailand too.

My favorite thing about living in Bangkok was traveling and meeting new people. I went to many beautiful places in the city and also to other provinces like Chiang Mai. They have a lot of cultural destinations that I really liked!

Whenever I met new friends from other countries, we exchanged knowledge, and other cultural information. There were too many insights that I got from living in Thailand! 

I have some tips and tricks for you to adapt in Thailand:

• Find a lot of new friends (both Thai and international students like you). They will help you to learn more about Thailand, give you advice and recommendations about the daily life and you will have company to travel with to many places.
• Learn! (Make sure to learn Thai culture before coming to Thailand and especially while you are here.)
