Wednesday, March 17, 2021: “How to write a Statement of Purpose”

Professor Matthew Downs, the Senior Consultant for International Affairs, ISC was the speaker for ECIA’s latest activity for students – a seminar entitled “How to write a Statement of Purpose”. The topic included the steps on writing an SOP as well as the ideas on what to include in order for students to effectively represent themselves. In addition, the professor also discussed the differences between a ‘Statement of Purpose’ and a ‘Cover Letter’; one is particularly used for applications to graduate schools, while the latter is submitted along with a resume when applying for jobs.

This seminar is very timely for university students especially those nearing graduation as this helps them prepare for the next step and decide on what their undertaking should be next.
